Fight Inflammation Naturally: Discover the Top 5 Anti-Inflammatory Foods

health and wellness Feb 17, 2023

As we age, we can start to experience inflammation, which can contribute to a variety of health issues such as arthritis, heart disease, and even cancer. Fortunately, there are many low carb foods that can help reduce inflammation and promote good health.

Here are my top five foods that can help reduce inflammation:

  1. Berries

Berries are packed with antioxidants and they contain a type of antioxidant called anthocyanins, which have been shown to reduce inflammation in numerous studies. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries are all excellent choices.  Add berries to protein shakes, have with low carb pancakes or with yogurt to make a delicious low carb dessert.

  2. Fatty fish

Fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines, are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have found that people who consume more omega-3 fatty acids have lower levels of inflammation in their bodies. Fatty fish is also an excellent source of protein, which can help promote muscle health and keep your metabolism firing on all cylinders.

  3. Leafy greens

Leafy greens, such as kale, spinach, and collard greens, are rich in vitamins and minerals that can help reduce inflammation. Specifically, leafy greens are high in vitamin K, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. They are also an excellent source of fiber, which can help promote digestive health.  Add greens to your protein shakes or make a vege frittata for an easy,  high-protein meal.

  4. Turmeric

Turmeric is a spice that has been used in traditional medicine for centuries to treat a variety of ailments. It contains a compound called curcumin, which has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have found that turmeric can help reduce inflammation in people with a variety of conditions, including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.  Click here for a delicious recipe for a low carb turmeric latte.

  5. Nuts

Nuts, such as almonds and walnuts, are packed with nutrients that can help reduce inflammation. Specifically, nuts are high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. They are also an excellent source of fiber and protein, which can help promote satiety and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

It is also important to note that reducing inflammation in the body is not just about what you eat, but also about what you don't eat. For example, processed foods and sugary drinks can contribute to inflammation in the body. Additionally, consuming too much alcohol can also contribute to inflammation.

In conclusion, there are many low carb foods that can help reduce inflammation in the body. Berries, fatty fish, leafy greens, turmeric, and nuts are just a few examples of foods that can promote good health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. By incorporating these foods into your diet and avoiding processed foods and sugary drinks, you can help reduce inflammation in your body and promote good health as you age.
