Refreshing and Healthy: 5 Non-Alcoholic Low-Carb Drinks to Sip and Savor

health and wellness Apr 12, 2023

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a good glass of bubbles.  I love the whole experience:  Chilling the bottle, popping the cork, seeing those beautiful effervescent bubbles in the tall glass.  As one of my lovely clients says:  “The bubbles go in and the fun comes out!”.

However, when I hit the age of 40 I realized that the equation had changed from:

ME + BUBBLES = FUN

To more like this:

ME + BUBBLES + FUN = WEIGHT GAIN

Weight gain that came on very quickly and was hard to shift.  That’s a real problem when your business is built on weight loss coaching!

So,  I made the decision to stop drinking. That was eight years ago and I've never looked back.  I love the feeling of waking up feeling fresh and I've found it much easier to maintain weight over the weekend.

But I’m not going to lie – I definitely miss the bubbles.

While the non-alcoholic drink market has been growing, I've found that many of the no-alcohol wines are high in sugar and therefore unsuitable for a low carb lifestyle.  That's why I was so excited to discover the Clear Head Drinks website and their delicious range of low sugar options.

If you are looking for alcohol alternatives that will help you in your weight loss journey, here are five of my favourite drinks:

1. Warners Pink Berry Botanic Spirits:

This is my favourite Summer drink.  A delicious alternative to pink gin and it has zero calories as well as carbs.  I  drink this with a generous squeeze of lemon and diet tonic water.  Available from the supermarkets as well as liquor stores.  More info here.

2. Pals

The Pals no-alcohol range are a popular option with my clients.  No artificial sweeteners and very low in calories with only 20 calories per can.  More info here.

3. Sobriety Society Shiraz Termpranillo

I had this at a recent BBQ and it was a goodie.  Only 2.5g sugar per 100mls.  More info here.

4. Altina Sansgria

I tried this wine on a recent trip to Melbourne - an ice cold drink after a long day of bush walking.  It was absolutely delicious!  More info here.

5. Thomson & Scott Noughty organic sparkling Chardonnay

I'm saving the best for last.  I ordered this recently and was so happy with this product.  Lots of bubbles, great cork-popping action and it wasn't too sweet.  A perfect option for special occasions.  More info here.

Giving up alcohol is certainly not compulsory to lose weight, but it definitely helps.  Having these delicious drink options makes it much easier to enjoy a special drink without the negative consequences.
