Fasting for weight loss: Is it right for you?

tips for weight loss Jan 20, 2023

As a weight loss coach, I love experiment with different strategies and I'm a huge fan of intermittent fasting.  I've included it in the eating plans for lots of clients and seen some amazing results.

Fasting can be a powerful tool for weight loss, blood sugar balancing, improved energy, and reduced inflammation.  It is a brilliant way to break through a plateau on the scales.

However, for every person who thrives on a fasting plan, I've also witnessed others, including myself, struggle to adapt to this method of eating

I have tried various fasting plans, such as the 16:8 and the 24-hour fast and I always end up feeling lightheaded, headachey and nauseous.  I've tried adding electrolytes to my water as well as having Himalayan salt under my tongue, but nothing works!

In my experience, people who tend to do well with fasting are those who don't struggle with excessive hunger, are able to get good sleep, and don't face excessive hormonal challenges.

On the other hand, those who have fragile blood sugar balancing or are in a job that requires a lot of thinking may find fasting challenging.  Exercise stimulates appetite so trying to fast when you are working out may be tough.  If you are the parent of young children and you're not getting good sleep, it will be exponentially more difficult to keep your appetite at bay in the afternoons.

There are many other strategies you can try to achieve your weight loss goals, such as following a low carb eating plan, increasing your physical activity and working on your stress management.

If you're not sure what the best strategy is for you, I invite you to book a free phone call with me and we can talk about the best strategy for you in 2023.
